Theres RAIN (no points) and ACTIVERAIN (points)...One comes on its own and the other invites you to join...

They need to wait a bit on that...I'm almost a free membership.

Why do people always bring this up?

The points fuels the competitive spirit.  When this whole social media thing started there were at least 10 more platforms like this one.  There is one left standing besides Active Rain...A

Probably less active, I have competition issues.

A few weeks ago Bob Stewart brought up the question.

 The members with lots of points said it would not affect their activity; newer members & those with fewer points reacted strongly that the points are a motivator.

Active because my posts show up on searches & I have gotten clients from them.  And importantly, I have learned so much from my peers.

I still would participate for the knowledge and interaction with other agents. 

I can't answer that question from this vantage point as the points are still there. I might very well move my blogging efforts to WordPress instead... and check in from time to time on my friends in the Rain.

Honestly, I'd probably be a bit less active.

I would not be answering as many questions.

It would not change my participation because this site is about so much more than points !   I'm here for the publicity, marketing, training and mentoring I get from AR and other members.

I notice the ones who seem to have a problem with points are those that already have a ton of them.   Please don't disparage those of us that find them a motivating force and an acknowledgement of our achievements.

Perhaps ActiveRain could create a designation like "Long Timer" for those that have exceeded a certain score, say 500K, and at that point only the title would show and points would be deleted.

I am competitive by nature, so although I would like to say it doesn't matter, it does.  

I would still be active. I like the information I get from others on AR.

I would still write my daily blog and may even check out my favorites, but there would be no incentive to participate in other parts of the rain. Then again it would be a big slap in the face to those who have been so active to earn the points they have. I can see it would be "pulling a trulia" abd we ala know how many agents ran from that platform when they pulled the same thing

Yes, I would still be active, as I enjoy the networking and the 'learning something new every day' factor (and that happens more days than you think!).  I enjoy the personalities, of course, Christopher Pagli!!  I would miss the Points at this time, because I'm so new, it's fun to see them accumulate.

I honestly do not know.  It would depend on other factors that changed, if any. If posts are still ranking and consumers are calling ... the points don't make a hill of beans difference.  

Nothing would change for me.  I am on here from time to time.  Sometimes every day of the week, then sometimes once every other week.  It really depends on my schedule but I actually dont pay attention to the points.

Not really here for the points. Here for the network, knowledge and to be seen on the web.

I expect 60% less commentaries.  There will be few old timers. It will be like sr realtor club with may be 100-200 members.

Utah RE School teachers will not get their advertising for free. They count on students points to grease their juice.

No change.  I do what I do because it works and I value the community.  Points don't make my phone ring.

The only reason I am here is so I can add my AR points to my frequent flier miles for those wonderful upgrades.

It's a wonderful incentive for new subscribers to get involved. The more involved you get, the more you want to be here. But I think they're great for the newbies. 

The points is strictly an ego thing... That's my thought... It wouldn't change a thing for me. Good post!

Christopher Pagli - if that happens, no one else but Patricia Kennedy will remain the only 3 Million Points earner.....

And if you want 'Active' part to be really active.....the rain drops are points.

Then it would just be "rain" without the Active.

Ok, maybe not, but most likely it would not be as active as it is now.  I know I would cut down my activity.

I would still be involved as I am here for business first. Some days I think they should go away. Some days I think they are a great idea.

Comments and answers will drop to little or none. It would be a big mistake for AR.

I'm not here for the points so it won't matter to me. 

I would still be a part of this community. I love this community and the friendships I've made. Although I probably wouldn't be as active without the point system. One of my yearly goals is also a point goal on AR. This is just for me, and I find it fun, and it motivates me even more to write my market reports. 

As active as I am now.  

More points do not provide me with any tangible benefit.

I like the motivation of higher points, and climbing the leader board. Yes, I have a long ways to go!  I have also learned from the interaction on here.
