Good experience but a thankless job. Glad I now live in the country with no HOA, few neighbors who all get along.

I was president of an HOA (154 homes) for several years.
I am glad for the experience; I would not do it again unless I was compensated for my time.

I have not as there is no HOA in the village where I live. However, I have several friends who have done so. They were happy to contribute. They would not participate again due to the amount of time needed and the political/adversarial positions common in most HOAs.

My Dad has and he says he'd never do it again. Too political. I was asked to join mine last month, based on my Dad's comment, I declined. But, I feel like I should as 75% of our board are non-residents and have no clue what it's like to live here anymore.

I have not... but my husband was President of three of them, so I was "close" to the situation. Overall, a positive experience.

Good morning Debbie. I am not part of a HOA, so I don't have that opportunity.

I served on the Board of our condo association for 4 years and was glad I did. It did require a fair amount of time and work but it was great experience and exposure. There were certain challenges with people and politics but you encounter those in any type of business and/or professional setting.

Debbie,
Neither one of us has patience for a committee. We admire and appreciate those who do. A

I have not. Can't wait to read all the answers. I have never lived in a subdivision that has HOA.

I served on my HOA board in Florida in 2001 and 2002. It was rewarding but I also had to handle a lot of complaints, whic was annoying.

I currently serve on 4 boards and it is time consuming. But with a good community manager it becomes easier and the small stuff is automatically handled. They know to let us know about big issues.

I have not; and my main reason for not serving is due to how much I may have to commit. I certainly have thought about it, but based on the answers I've read from others, my choice to not serve is probably best.

I have not, nor have I even had time to attend. They have them once a year in March, and have tried many times, but always have something come up. (15 years now)

Yes as Vice President and President. It's a lot of work and time consuming than one would think.

I have served on a small and large HOA. The small one I am still doing. Great exposure for business. Good experience. The larger board I quit 1/3 of the way through my term. It was down right ridiculous the amount of grief you got for things that were totally beyond your control.

Though I detest HOA's and their busybody ways, I don't mind serving on various boards, as long as I am the chairman.

I have been on hoa same one for many years. Since I am not the president, treasury. People do not point finger at me. Many officers take things too serious and get angry at a few trouble makers they cry, resign or wanted to sue.
