I had this happen in December.  Had to tell them I respectfully disagreed with how the situation was being handled and if we want to see this through to fruition we need to discontinue an emotional reaction and perform.

Have a dialog with them giving them the pros and cons especially if we are in a transaction. I keep control of my client however possible, some need more babysitting than others. If they are "self destructive" to the transaction, I need to find out why. Do they really want to go forward with it being a key question.
