As Sam Shueh said, your MLS determines the timeline.  The MLS is the one who will hit you with a violation and a fine if you don't operate within the guidelines.

Our MLS it needs to be on the system in 2 days? unless the seller signed there is no mls participation.

It depends.  There is usually one specified by the MLS and in the listing agreement, however, the listing agent and the Seller can agree to modify this time frame IN WRITING, which prevails...

I'd say varies on your mls rules. In my mls it is 3 days to change status or list. p.s. You can sign the RLA today but the listing day in mls to be days/weeks from now, so you have time to prepare the property and marketing material( at least, in our RLA a signing day and a listing day can be different).

It typically depends on the individual MLS rules.  In California, we have a form that the seller signs and the broker approves that can withhold a listing from the mls for a period of time(or for the course of the listing).   That form must be submitted to the mls for anything that is not input into the system within the required time frame.

My broker says 3 days.

I most certainly ignore that requirement.

The MLS has their requirements.

I most certainly ignore those requirements also.

I do that which is most beneficial to those that hire me.

There is an artful component to real estate and a engineering component. Those who wish to limit the solutions or control the options of the real estate professional, want to keep the entire business structure as close to a engineered business as possible. The 'One-size-fits-all' solution to a highly variable client base breeds the contempt for the profession so many report, you know like those car-salesman comments.

It takes courage to resist conformity.

Our MLS allows us a few days to get listings entered after the list date, and to get the status updated, I believe it is 3 days.  I have never seen the value in holding the listing off MLS.

MY MLS has a 48 hour rule.  The only thing that trumps the rule the agreement itself.  And many times my agreement says it shall be placed in the MLS the day I get the professional photos back from the photographer.  That keeps me out of trouble with my MLS and keeps my listings looking good in the MLS.

In our market, if we do not specify, it must be in the MLS in 48 hours.  However, most of my listings are signed with an "on or before date" filled in.  I have taken listings as far out as six months in advance.
