Yes. I believe the majority still aren't aware of all the intricate details. What bothers me the most is when a cash buyer asks for a rebate or commission split. They feel it is just a matter of signing the contract and waiting for the closing date.

Definitely. There is so very much going on to find a buyer. Then there is so much going on to get the sale closed. The average person has no idea.

Good morning Michael. I do a lot of explaining when I do a pre-qualification, then prior to the offer process and then at the application process.
Hopefully my client is completed educated about the behind the scenes stuff.

Yes, the general public lack experience and knowledge of the many details involved from start to
closing. But repeat buyers /sellers sometime have a general overview of the outworkings.

Most people do not know what goes on behind the scenes in all types of professions, occupations, trades, etc. Real estate is no different.

Most people don't even know about title insurance and all that is required during the loan process of buying a home. There is no more lending money on someone's good name. There is a lot involved and many of my buyers have gotten their eyes opened when I go over a purchase agreement with them.
Most people seem to think we put a sign up in a yard and our job is done after we list a home. It's not that way. There is a lot involved.

My Buyers bought from a FSBO recently, with my help. When the Closing was over, the FSBO Seller, who had been resistant to me at the beginning, thanked me profusely, she told me she had no idea how complicated it was.

Yes! They think you list the house and poof it's sold. Dealt with that a few times, especially on a hot listing! They don't see anything else and only the commission cost.

Absolutely..they have no idea of the intricacies..let's face it most clients sell every 4-6 years and look at the changes that occur during that time. Not to mention if they move to another state..it's all different!

The know it all types who think they know everything and don't, think realtors make money for simply opening a door or two.

When buyers start with me they think the job is easy. By the time we get to closing that think I’m nuts to do all the work I do.

Many are but overall the buyer and seller of today is so much more informed than the buyer and seller of 10 years ago. The Internet has taught them the questions to ask and about terms. They still want to hear it from an agent though.

Definite yes to this question. Most think we waive a magic wan and show up at the closing for our commission check! If only it were that easy!
5,104,931
Of course they are and that's one reason they want to negotiate down our commission... they don't know or appreciate what and how much we do behind the scenes and how much time and money it takes. I've been "educating" my own clients for decades and they don't ask for commission reductions. They get it. (And they say thank you.)
