One hundred plus years ago Colorado Springs was supposedly known as the “Newport of the Rockies” and other “PR” nicknames. Mostly created by land developers.

Today we are just “The Springs.”

Yes it does and they had a renaming contest a few years ago and nobody likes the new name. The new name is Tennessee's Top Spot. Older names are Gateway to the South and Queen City.

Yes, Charlotte is known as the Queen City. Charlotte was named after Queen Charlotte of England who was initially a German princess from Mecklenburg (hence Charlotte being in the county of Mecklenburg).

In general, we are called the Coulee Region.  

GTA, Centre of the Universe, 416 (or 905) depending on which side of the border with Toronto you are referencing, T.O., Hogtown and so many more.

We used to be known as the dairy land, however, our image is changing to central commuter town to all neighboring counties.

The metro area is the big apple or sometimes just the "city". Closer to home it's "the Village".

Northern Virginia or NOVA. It encompasses alot of cities and defines the area.
