They are being replaced with copper, flex and plastic now a days. They gave a good run but they have run out. I usually replace as it breaks down

As long as you've disclosed they're there, I haven't seen any  insurance issues.  It is when they're not disclosed that the problems arise.

No problems yet. Seems like many are just drain pipes. If drinking water came through them I would be more concerned.

Wow- I didn't know that insurance companies could deny claims in regard to galvanized pipes.  I will have to start asking some questions- great- blog topic!

Fred - I can tell you that home insurer's dislike all Galvanized pipe.  For numerous reasons:

It is not really used anymore, hence it means that it is old.

It slowly corrodes over time and clogs then leaks and does not work.

The potential liability of them.

Insurers like new plumbing.  They like copper plumbing.  They are OK with newer PEX and maybe PVC.

Fred, have never had this issue come up with my buyers, and we have galvanized pipe in the older homes.

Good morning Fred Griffin . Part of your disclaimer is false. Corroded galvanized pipe disrupts the functional flow. The static pressure is still the same. It is an easy fix though, just replace the horizontal runs.

We have lots of old homes with all sorts of pipes, as they wear out they get replaced with pvc or pex.

It wouldn't surprise me.  My house had a small sectrion of galvanized pipe that cost my insurance company an awful lot of money.  Now it's all gone.

I've never had an insurance denial, because all the insurance agents ask for here is the mls sheet.  I don't recall a call out for galvanized pipe on an inspection.  Must not have had any?

That is some ugly picture, Fred. Wish I had an answer for you on this, but I've not come across any galvanized pipe issues myself. Will be looking to see what others have to say.
