I am, and it depends on the condition of the person. I've helped several elderly explore adding main level bedrooms and baths, stair chair systems, taken them to see assisited living facilities, lined up people to help them cook meals for the week, etc. Those devices have their place, but they won't stop someone from falling down steps and getting seriously hurt. Companies like Visiting Angels can come in handy if the person is still fairly agile. Technology like Fitbit can monitor pulse , etc, and maybe there is an app for cell phones now where a caregiver can monitor or be sent an alert? I haven't done anything with that yet so can't really say. I can tell you from experience that, many elderly love figiting with everything. Taking out ear plugs, removing batteries, flushing devices down toilet, etc, so I wouldn't depend on those devices. Many people need a live person checking on them. I've actually had to diconnect the stoves at a couple elderly persons houses so they wouldn't set the house on fire.

About your question - I see a few good responses. I am sure you have few people to talk about this.

I would recommend that you relay the question to the elderly's physician. They usually have the resources who you can contact to better serve the needs of the elderly. Seniors with a high level of care need usually are already assigned a social care advisor.

Both my mother in law and uncle spend the last days of their lives last year at a full-time adult resident care home. If cost is an issue, there are nurses, or companions who will come to their house on an hourly basis to check up on them. This is especially beneficial if they need supervision of their medication.

I wouldn't rely too much on technology. Elderly have a tendency to forget things and fitbit does not work if it is not worn.

I have not experienced or come across this type of service. I am sure it is out there. Any device like that would have to be removed for bathing so the senior would have to be of sound mind or at least have a caregiver drop in regularly to do that task.

I was my grandmother's "person" for the hospital at various times in her life. I love the idea of a device that would monitor, but can't say that I think my mom would ever go for it.  Wonder if I could remotely monitor her fitbit.

Good to see you back Nikesh, I have not used any of the monitors that do this but I have seen a few adds for them.

Wow Nikki, those are some really great questions. Of course you would need a medical person to read the monitor results, but WOW, what a great idea!

As my mother aged, the family was lucky that my youngest sister agreed to move into the house and keep an eye on her.  There is a whole lot that can go wrong, and the technology can't keep someone from falling or getting into mischief.

My wife does care-giving and only takes readings as necessary or instructed. Most professional care when done right is proactive and preventative in nature. Good care helps to restore balance and normalcy aka Natural health

I have a good amount of experience.  It is a challange as many seniors do not accept the help readily.  Right now FitBit has come out with new tchnology that will monitor heart rates and some other issues...Under $200 and syncs to your computer.  This could be a grea start for the person still living at home.  Wish we would have had this option a year ago

I know of no product that does that. I took care of my dad who was handicapped & 86. We could only find monitoring with a beeper that would send help.

I think that it would be helpful to check with senior care providers in your state. I have companies that work only with seniors that help them with care, moving, different levels of help, etc. but I'm in IL.

My wife is a clinical nurse specialist in geriatric psych and I will ask her. But my thoughts are if you are monitoring things from a remote location and you  need to adjust something with the patient then it would require someone who has some level of skill or knowledge like a LPN .

Not personally but have a good friend who owns an In-home Care company in the San Diego area. I'll have to ask her about your questions
