There are many ostrich farms in the wine country of Santa Barbara, and their meat is served at the HItching Post Restaurant, made famous by the movie, Sideways.

When I was a little girl I had a pet ostrich named Violetta.  My dad had rescued her because she was hurt, and he took care of her until she got better, and then we let her go.  I don't think I would order ostrich in memory of Violetta.  A

I think it is more like they will eat us not the otherway around.

I have had ostrich and don't like the wild taste and the dark meat. I do like turkey and can eat it all times of the year.

I hope you are not planning to invest your life savings in on Ostrich farm.

You had better have a large family and large oven for that one! 

On a lark, hubby and I bought a processed ostrich from one of our neighbors a couple years ago. We still have some in the freezer. It cooks and tastes like veal. It's a very lean meat. I seriously doubt it will ever replace turkey as a mainstay for a thanksgiving meal.

Richie - Where I live, in Chandler, AZ, we have a nationally renowned Ostrich Festival every year in March. I have only had Ostrich chili, so can't really comment on the taste. However, they are a very, very large bird.

Can you imagine how the turkey would feel?   

Now that WOULD be a feast. Can you just imagine the size of oven and the time necessary to cook it whole?

It's supposed to taste pretty good.  But I'll be it's harder to raise than turkey.

The Turkey almost became the national bird.  Can you imagine if our national symbol was the ostrich?

They would probably be easier to catch...

I've had ostrich before.  It was good and I enjoyed it.  Don't see it replacing turkey due to the tradition behind turkey and the exoticness of ostrich in people's minds.

I would start selling commecial size stoves and ovens

if that happens, just don't tell me it's Ostrich....

Even more so in Oklahoma, just look at the cowboy boots.

I can't see it happening, Richie.  But, who knows?

No I can't imagine that.  Where would you store those in the super market?

We would need to get a much larger oven.
