Your question prompted some very philosophical thoughts in my head about when are people considered 'old.' (Go figure)..And, I think that like people, homes can't be generalized.

We've all seen beautiful old homes with updated interiors and new systems; as well as newer houses that have been trashed and appear older.

It really depends upon the maintenance, updates, and upgrades.

the one distinction i care about is what is considered new? for appraisals i have seen, new is not  only under a year but must have NOT been lived in. i would love to hear from appraisers about this.

Here in Charlotte we think a 10 year old house is old. But I have clients from other parts of the country who do not consider a 25 year old house old. It depends where you come from.

Here in Southwest Florida, everyone has a different opinion since new construction is so popular. It is definitely a regional thing.

Good Thursday morning Spirit. I would consider anything 50 years or older as being old.

That all depends.  Mine was built in 1915 and is not yet old - though it's had a few facelifts, it has great bones.  But I do think a lot of the stuff built after about 1960 will fall apart way sooner than this one will.

I think it is more like 75 years and older in my area. The houses of the 50's and 60's still have a new look when they are remodeled with current features.

Old and historic are not always the same. Some old homes are in perfect condition while some homes less than 20 years old are in very bad condition.

Old is our market is probably over 30 years old.

Strangely, it seems the 'style' of the home is the bigger reflection of age versus it's actual age.

Spirit Messingham I think it depends on the geographical location. I don't think the structure get old, it's the amenities inside the property that date it.

Does not take much to be "old", but to be what I consider "Vintage" I like to see a house with character that is 100-150
