That's impossible to answer. Every location has its own price point. And people's definitions of successful are all different.  Success can have many definitions besides the dollar earned.

Bill that is a number that will vary greatly from location to location.

But one thing is universal, many agents are incapable of making a living and should never have been recruited into the field.

It propbably depends on geography.  An agent earning low six figures might be wildly successful in Topeka, Kansas and on the virge of poverty in Manhatten.

That would depend what the individual agent believes is a mark of success.

Some would define success as having an activity that gets them out of the house.

Another may define success as earning enough money to pay for the annual cruise.

Another may define success as having the capacity to help those in an undeserved segment.

Those whose arrogance can not be masked would measure it solely by the height of the pile of money. And THAT is what we want to call the 'Measure of the Man."

In that perspective, there is only the struggler, survivor, influencer and visionary. Which of these would you call a success?

Good Thursday morning Bill. I know some real estate agents that "Earn" mega millions. It's not about the gross, it's about your net.

I think, it depends on the location. Here in L.A., the Average price of the property is 500k, while in some locations it is only 10k. Also what is net in RE? We have so many expenses. I've seen some very successful agents who make a lot of money having very little net after marketing, salaries to the team and all other deductions.

Bill - Too many variables to say. In smaller rural areas it will be much lower than in Beverly Hills or Manhattan, NY.

With an average sale price in my area of $160,000 I would say to be considered successful you would need to net over $50,000.

I think it would vary market to market. I couldn't afford to live in LA on what I make, but I make a great living in central Georgia in my rural community. Everything is relevant.
