1. Points.
2. They skimmed instead of reading and thought they understood when they didn't.
3. Laziness.

probably.... putting some thought into a post and leaving a comment that makes sense is a compliment to every writer of a post..... how insulting to leave a few words that are irrelevant....

Some of the comments are made as an effort to reciprocate on comments even when the blog may not be of interest.
Yes, the points system does create some empty comments.

I try to avoid the negative interpretation and just assume that they either missed the point or maybe something in my post inspired a loosely associated thought that may not seem connected to me but may to them.

Some are just about points but miss the real reason to be here, which is to learn, network and attract new clients.

Some people like to collect points. Points have value if you are working towards the goal of 500,000 points in order to get a free membership, if AR still has that offer. Others do it to get to the top of the leaderboard in their area.

Joe Petrowsky Commenting for Points is something like a TV show that was on the air long ago "Bowling for Dollars". After reading this post and all the comments, I see that there is (or was) an incentive to reach 500,000 points to get something for free that would otherwise cost money. That would certainly drive pointless posts and comments (from some) to maximize their daily point potential. If you dangle a carrot, don't be surprised if someone wants to eat it!

Yeah, I think they're trolling for points, or just there to annoy/harass.

I dont understand that. If I take time to write you a comment, Its going to be related and worth your while. Its not about points!

Joe, I think some of it is technology based Sometimes, I read a post, scroll down to comment, and am interrupted. Either I lay my smartphone down to answer the landline, or to speak with someone. Other times I hold the device in my hand and as I move around, or momentarily place the phone in my pocket to free my hands. Whatever the interruptions may be, it seems my DROID enjoys playing tricks on me. A couple of times, while responding to a client or another agent's text, Example: perhaps my wife texts me or phones. After I hang up, I begn composing a reply to the first person, and hit send. I get another text from my wife saying I sent the following to her.
CASE IN POINT: After posting this comment, I found where DROID took it upon himself to change the word "begin" that I had typed, into "behind". I found it during proof reading.
A related issue is when the cursor roams back a few sentences and my typing invades a previous sentence. After I have concluded, thinking I know what I said, I hit send. For whatever reason, when I read what I sent, isn't what I said. "Where is the edit button."
Recently, a friend on Facebook questioned why I had sent a one character reply to her comment?
This will be my last touch screen phone. All of the TIME there devices supposedly SAVE US is then WASTED on constant upgrades, errors and broken screens. I am about ready to go back to using a Motorola pager. I had one for 14 years, and maintenance simply required a new AA battery I was more productive and more in control. ;)

Joe Petrowsky I get 5 points to answer this question.... but 25 points for 'any' comment! Why shouldn't I? (just kidding...)
940,545
More than likely, points, just like money for some. They just crave an need it, even if they don't really do anything to earn it.
5,772,575
Joe,
I would guess that it may be about the points, and sometimes, I think that individuals are so out of it with stress and whatever ails them, that they are not focused on what they are doing, or they were interrupted while writing the comment...A
