Brenda J. Andrew , I am with you. Try to chuckle and move on. It usually works for me.
I did have a surprise one day that was a bit tricky. A full size, "adult" swing in the master bedroom that was suspended from the ceiling. The children wanted that room!

Try to find some humor in the situation if possible and keep on trucking.

I am never uncomfortable as nothing surpises me any more. I remember showing a house in the winter time and the seller answered the door saying what the F do you want.? Not fazed by this I said I was a realtor and want to show the house andhe let me inside and in the kitchen I saw all four burners on his stove on which he was using for heat. My buyer did not buy the house.

The best way out of any tough situation is to ask questions and let them know that you hear them.

If it my listing and the visitor is the issue, I alleviate the problem by opening the door and saying, "Looks like this house is not for you."
If I am with the buyer and the incident occurs at another house, I immediately go into the the "Life is a box of chocolates....." analogy.

I've encountered all sorts of awkward situations. The best way is to stay focused and keep going.

well.... depends what it was.. i usually offer drinks... lots of them. :)
1. i had a elderly client break wind, a real bad one... i suggested they see the great backyard, i led the way.
2. i had a developers wife ask about the flooring (expensive natural stone) she asked if the color had been painted on... i turn to show them the kitchen appliances.. so nothing drastic comes to mind.
