Yes, but some plans offer unlimited data. i'm with tmobile and I can use my data( whatsapp, facetime, skype, etc.) with no additional charges when I travel.
I agree with Bob Crane about google and I use trip advisor!
I use Yelp and Urban Spoon for restaurants, tripadvisor for booking hotels, etc. Booking Buddy, and Waze on the road. And of course Google maps and Siri
Chris Locke - I use 'expedia.com' for my travel needs. I also have downloaded hotels.com app.
For road trip I like iExit, gives you any food, gas etc. option and what exit they are at ahead. Great for if you like to limit your fast food to the healthier options.
