Today, I do not see the value in a university education unless it is Med School. The costs are prohibitive for the majority and the hope of a job upon graduation is dismal. I do not believe there is enough practical learning and we today have a society of "book smart" people with zero common sense plus a new sense of entitlement.
No longer is there a career/job for life and the world is changing too fast to know what will be doable in 5 years. My suggestion is to find your purpose and your passion and go the entrepreneurial route. Secure your future by taking control of your future.
I also believe Apprentice programs should be brought back to allow kids to learn on the job under a skilled senior.

I am not sure I would go to college if I had to do it again. Maybe straight into real estate, not sure how seriously anyone would take an 18 year old kid. But if I did it would probably be a business major or something with computers.

Golf Course Architect/Design, I love being out on the course and looking at the land to try to figure out how I would place a golf course on it, the travel would be nice and seeing some beautiful places would not upset me either.

Yes, this is a great question. I was an education major. I would now want to become a business major or marketing with an emphasis on an entrepreneur program! To be able to run a business and teach others how to as well.

Hey Chris,
I'm thinking it would be Psychology. I think I was born to be a real estate professional, so having a degree would be great to work with different clients personalities and mannerisms.
Great Question!

I like urban planning and economic development. Sustainable business I see as the future. I have a MSW degree and am doing volunteer wirk with not for profits in the area of affordable housing and this also is something I wish I had done earlier on in my career.

Spirit Messingham I made the decision to go into software design or computer programming. It is the mechanics of the future. No matter where anyone wants to work, software and coding is going to be in the business. Thanks for asking!

Good question. I graduated with Sociology/Anthropology and if I had to do it over, I would do the same thing. Get in, get a degree (with honors) as fast as I can and get out. Course, I dont really "need" a degree as a Realtor, but that plus 10 years of Fortune 500 sales experience has helped me in this field. How about you, what would you do differently?

I have never regretted my Marketing major since everyone has to always be Marketing their products or services to stay employed in any job; but I do think it would have been cool to have majored in abnormal psych and / or to be a doctor.
If I was only after the money (which I am not) and didn't have a heart, I would probably go into bankruptcy law since you can find lots of clients that owe more than their assets will cover and you can rack up huge billable hours and get paid with preference.

If I had it to do all over again, I'd have focused on languages during my early education and gone for the Georgetown School of Foreign Service. I served on some State Department treaty negotiating teams in the '70s, and learned so much. And I have a lot of friends whe are/were career diplomats. I think the Foreign Service is a great life and a great way to serve our country.

Computer science and marketing, although if I had learned the intelligent use of basic software programs, Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, Intuit and a few others, it wouldn't be necessary to have a college degree IMHO, I would get into sales immediately and after a few years start my own company.

I amassed over 260 hours in college and had enough hours for three degrees in philosophy, history, and sociology. I needed 4 required courses and some filler hours. I would love to go back and finish those. Is it any wonder I am a REALTOR®.

Although my husband and I owned 2 franchises, I would have liked to study computer science so I would now be tech savy. Previous to that, my husband was an executive for an International Airline and we lived in New York, Taiwan, West Berlin, American Samoa and Moscow. I am happy to be in Sunny San Diego and don't want to travel, since I have been there, done that.

As a graduate of good ol' SHK (School of Hard Knocks) I really don't know if I'd do anything different. I dropped out of Pitt after one yer because of pressure to persue a degree that I really had little interest in. I'm happy with the success I've achieved nad the career I've chosen and have never looked back.

Psychology and ergonomics.
Or simply read up on Feng Shui. (I might be kidding)
In a world where each citizen is receiving information from increasing narrower channels. the great need to communicate that we all embrace the same need for peace, health and a better future for our children is held in common within our hearts. A voice of reason and peace must rise in place of the war mongers leading distressed populations of vanity world wide.
Should such a voice rise up, Google would not allow us to hear it because our browsing history dictates you read more of the same stuff you've already consumed.
Where is the one who aspires to be the voice of reason, of good news, of hope?
If I were to begin again, were asked to advise regarding the course of most benefit, it would be a study in Apologetics of a generic nature.
Equipped so, one is able to identfy the greater purpose, the greater goal of others and effectively guide them to acheivement in a manner benefical to all involved.

Chris,
I don't think I would do anything different. I had a liberal arts education with a major in Russian and a minor in French. I went on to get a dual Masters in Slavic Languages and Literatures. As useless as this sounds, the perspective and understanding I have of the world at large, and the knowledge I gleaned from liberal arts is priceless. I would have also studied computer science and programming... A

If I have to do formal study right now, it would be for a Special Education teaching degree. I did after-school tutoring for some years as a side gig and it was such a fulfilling experience. Regular teachers are in great numbers and there is the need for attention to be given to those who are special.
