I do not use abbreviations, with only exception of last minute/showing texting to agents; even that is truly using shld, hv, etc.... I'm with you on this one Paul. Plain speech makes communication easier and professional.

We all have a tendency to use jargon, so I usually can catch myself and make sure to explain any shortcuts.

We do have a slew of them don't we Paul. I've found that many have regional distinctions which makes it even more confusing at times. The customer gets the long version since if I can't decipher them they certainly won't.

I try to explain things to my clients in as simple a way as possible. I never take for granted how little, or how much, they may know.

I dont refrain (but I do write out what they mean). For example:... if all goes well we should close by end of day on COE (close of escrow).

Paul,
We all have so kind of language, and it is a kind thing to take time to explain oneself. Ron and I have all kinds of shorthand speak, that sound like English, but only understood by both of us. One example is F &L is a reference to something we will nto do again (first and last time) such as restaurant, party. store, etc. That agent needs a gift coupon to a Miss Manners course. A

Yes, just talk plain English. Many agents don't know the abbreviations.

Paul S. Henderson I hope you asked her to speak English the next time she communicated with her. In my opinion, she was the one who was unprofessional thinking everyone would know her office jargon.

When communicating with CLIENTS I use no abbreviations. However, when communicating with other professionals I have a REAL expectation they should know, without explanation, what MLS means.
There are other, covert reasons, to use acronyms but these have no place in a transaction where citizens can be confused, harmed or misled.
One lender does not use acronyms but instead phrases such as 'Floating Rate Lock." A what??????

I do not use abbreviations . I have some clients who make up their own abbreviations when texting and I have to read a couple of times to figure out what they are saying.

Long hand only...no mistakes that way. NO texts unless it is I am on my way.

I use MLS but that is understood by most buyers and sellers. I use the abbreviations for some of the loan types as these too are understood to be financing options. Beyond that I don't use much.

It is very difficult to remember not to abbreviate when communicating outside of texting.

Yes Paul, they do not always understand acronyms and it is good to be very clear.
