They are both equally important, as far as I'm concerned and often go hand in hand.

I believe they are both highly important.  Have you been in a situation where the seller wasn't convinced to do both?  Or maybe you don't want to ask too much of your seller?

What's the difference?   They are de-personalizing their home when they de-clutter it.  Obviously, their personal choice of living in clutter is now altered.

Equally important! I would almost prefer the de-personalizing more though.  It seems to affect buyers more in my opinion.

They are one and the same!  You can't do one without the other.

If forced to pick, I'd say de-cluttering.  Although both are important, the answer really depends on which one needs the most attention.  For example, I've been in houses that have almost no personal photos around but the place is very messy... so de-cluttering would be more important in that case.  I've also been in a couple of houses that had either family photos & kid's drawings everywhere you looked or many religious items displayed but the house was kept clean & neat... so de-personalizing is needed in those.

They go hand in hand.  Get rid of the clutter and personalized items and let's get the home sold quickly.  Some buyers can't see past the stuff.

We sell houses then people turn them into homes. It takes a lot of strength, emotionally and physically to revert that back into a house. That's where one of the needs for the real estate associate comes into play. DE STRONG!

Russ Ravary ~ Metro Detroit Realtor call (248) 310-6239  Yes, the seller should be involved in the selling process. I would hope they wouldn't expect the agent to de-clutter and store their personal items .

Can I humbly offer my non-realtor opinion?  We've sold 3 times and bought homes only 3 of them, but I will tell you personalization if it means the pink colored bedroom or the things that take some time to see beyond have been a reason for us to pause.  If you mean photos and that kind of thing then that's something I enjoy, but it is dangerours from what I read now for sellers not to remove photos.  Maybe too many crime tv shows are watched, but just the same.  What is a huge turn off are dishes in the sink and dirty carpets, but that's me.  A great question.

To me both are equally important.  It all depends on the home and the home owner.

De-cluttering is more important.

Personalizing can be used in a beneficial way.
