It always does! 

I work with a partner, so my days off or vacation days( very rare!) I have a backup. I pick up my phone or call back shortly even if it is my day off( unless, I'm out of the country).

Vacation?  What's a Vacation?  Seriously, it rings more while on vacation!

My phone rings off the hook in spells.  Mostly it is pretty steady though.  Luckly we have a great staff that takes care of the calls when we go out of town. 

I don't know what you mean by "a few vacation days." We can take more than one? 

My phone will start ringing and problems will come up just before I want to leave and while I'm away. What is with the universe allowing this to happen?

The day or two before is a killer. People I haven't heard from in months, years come out of the woodwork and I generally work 16-18 hour days getting everything in order to leave.

It never fails. When I go to NAR Midyear or to the NAR Annual Convention, something always comes up back at the office that requires intense concentration and attention.

Always, whether it is fate or luck, i think i need more vacations.

What I find happens is that calls seem to come in at once.  I can go for a period with the phone being quiet, and then in they all seem to ring within minutes of each other. 

Of course :) this spring break I felt guilty for, in the first time in years, not booking something elaborate for the fam. Well, they all got sick. Glad we were home vs. vacay, afterall and the phone was manageable.

The week before vacation, people you haven't spoken to in 10 years need something today!  Right now!  Never fails.

Actually, right after I arrive on vacation! I've negotiated deals by poolside and on Caribbean islands. 

Phone calls start ringing when you are unable to take listings. When you are at home all callers want to sell you something you don't need.

Yes, always.  In fact, if it's not ringing enough, I will schedule some vacation time.

Yes always! And then of course you stress when you are going out of town. I arrange coverage in my absence.

Yes Vern Eaton but only because I'm practicing what it feels like to not be  answering it right away. Being tethered to a phone voids the reason of taking vacation in the first place. Current customers are notified of my absence.
