Yes, I dress for business. Shoes shined, suits or pants freshly cleaned and pressed. Being well put together and manicured are essential. I am a clothes horse and take a lot of pride in what I wear and how I look. Having lots of clothes and shoes to choose from has always been my style.

Yes, depending on the marketplace Charles.  When we owned our commercial real estate firm, we dressed in what we would refer to as a "hip" biz style.  Ron did not wear 3 piece suits or wingtips, and I did not wear up tight clothes.  We related to show biz and the creative crowd in Los Angeles.

Here in Santa Barbara, the dress is casual elegant..no ties for men, slacks, shirts and sweaters when it get cold.  A

Yes! You have to dress for success. Can you imaging showing up in casual wear for your Listing Presentation. Do you think the seller would take you seriously. Image is everything. You have to be always ready, even if you dont have an appoinment. You have to put your best foot forward at all timea. You never know who is watching you.

I live in an extremely rural area. I could go from showing a million dollar home to walking a 100 acre parcel. I dres casually. People in my area do, and that includes clients.

Yes! I don't find it 'cute' to meet a listing agent who is in a tennis outfit or in a bathing suit. I don't expect the suit and a tie, but something business looking would be fine.

Dress professionally, which means different garbs in different areas of the country. On Kauai wearing a suit is out of place whereas nice resort wear is considered very professional.

Some agents I know spend way too much time and effort worrying about whether they look perfectly attired, or whether their car is spotless.  And some of those agents seem to be more concerned about impressing other agents, rather than clients.

I'd recommend dressing appropriately and confidently.  Alexandra is spot on when she refers to "casual elegant".

I think that depends on their local custom.  In our area of lots of agriculture it would look odd to be in a suit.  If I worked a downtown business district I would always be in a suit.

I used to think so but not anymore.  In my area some of the more successful agents wear jeans and polo shirts for business...works for them.

For men, it used to be suit and tie, but now it has become more relaxed.  I play it by ear.  The people that dress up, a suit and tie would be the plan, but in todays society, most clients are dressing casual and feel more comfortable when the agent s also casual.  It creates a more friendly atmosphere when I dress accordingly.

I wear a sit to closings, and a shirt and tie every day at the office. If I am showing property on the weekend, I wear pants and a dress shirt.

I always shudder when an agent comes to closing in shorts, thinking this is SO inappropriate.    Showing has even gotten very relaxed around here, and most often you have no idea who the REALTOR is.   I still dress from business casual to business.

I agree with the area.  I started my business in Detroit and was always dressed to the '9's' I'm not practicing in South Florida and for me to be in more than nice dress shorts, a polo and of course my name tag people look at me funny and that also includes when I'm showing 7 figure listings.  :)

Great question

I think in my area, as long as a Realtor's clothes are clean/in good condition, they don't show stuff they shouldn't (I've seen way too much of some parts of bras on a couple of agents!) and doesn't wear flip-flops, I think I'd be fine with just about anything they choose to wear.  Overall, here it's best to dress casual but professional.

Not necessarily certain clothing, but at least look somewhat professional.  As the owner of the company, I do require all agents to dress inappropriately.  That will differ widely depending on the type of property they are viewing.  ie; you don't weal=r a suit and tie if you are going to look at a working dairyfarm or walk the woods looking at hunting land.
