I hire it out. As a side note, holy cow Gabe Sanders! Overachiever. What a great excuse to get a Go-pro and a drone.

just looking back over some old questions and answers, looks like you got some decent replies to this one.

I hire someone unless the place is a dump. I also have a flying gopro like Gabe does.

For many reasons, I take my own photos and videos. We are in a relatively remote recreational area where competent photography resources are either scarce or expensive.
The problem with so many "professional" photographers is that they have no skin in the game. They may consider themselves pros, but their specialty is wedding photography or glamour industry stuff, not real estate or architectural photography. These well-meaning folks show up for a photo shoot and spend maybe an hour actually taking photos (because their time clock is running). They hand you a jump drive with a couple dozen photos (un-edited and uncorrected for lens distortion) and they're gone. If you complain, they are quick to tell you that their photos were "good enough" for the big franchise brokerages in town.
I use a Canon 5D Mark III with wide and ultrawide lenses. Once in awhile I use a Canon Fisheye lens, with DxO software.

I have a Nikon D-5000 that I purchase several years ago, and I take my own photos. I need to purchase a wide-angle lens, and hopefully that will come this year.
I do tell my clients that I will hire a professional photographer if they are unsatisfied with my photos, though.

John, we take our own photos and we purchased a Nikon D-5200 last summer and received a great deal from Best Buy. It has been fairly painless to use and the results with lack of inside lighting or those sun drenched widows have now been overcome with very good pictures!

I take most of my own. In the old 35 MM days I was a very good amateur photogapher. I even got paid to take photos from time to time.

I use a Nikon D-5000 with a 10-20mm Sigma lens instead of the stock lens. it is not only a wide anlge but also a superior lens and I also use a custom flash.

I am the world's worst phtographer and no matter what I'd do, I'd never be as good as a professional. All of my photos are done professionally and it's a big selling point on listing appointments.

In the case of staged homes that show well, I'll usually hire a real estate photographer. She's very affordable, about $150 for most homes, and she uploads the photos to MRIS for me as well as creating a photo slideshow with music. 'Saves me a lot of time!
No amount of photography can help a home that shows poorly, however, so I generally take those with my Canon point-and-shoot camera and enhance the lighting with a photo editor on my computer.

It depends. I do prefer to hire a professional photographer with serious editing skills, but if the property is not ''prepared'', it is just a waste of money. In that case, I help sellers with a bit of staging and do my best with my Nikon D7000 with few nice wide lenses , basic editing. If I had patience to learn Lightroom post processing and Photoshop....

I hire out. For the cost of the photos to be done professionally - it is worth it to me to have good photos - I think the seller deserves as much.

I take my own with a panasonic video HD camera. It shoots awesome 2D and 3D stills. I don't use the 3D for Real Estate.

I take my own photos. I don't even know if we have a professional real estate photographer in my extremely rural area. I do a good job of taking pictures. I take a lot of them and experiment with different lighting and setting to get different results. At one house I took 128 pictures.

Nikon D7000, tripod, external flashes. 360 deg stitch software.
These cell, digital photos often come crooked and show how sloopy the realtors are in marketing. Their lens are made of plasitc which often take pool resolution images.

I just added more camera equiptment. I have over $5000 invested and take all my own, but I have also taken a few classes. Yes, they may not be Professional, but very feew would be able to tell the difference.

We recommend using a professional. How many hours do you have in a day to do that also? Lighting is key if you are going to do it yourself. A
