I am sure it will be difficult to inform everyone about your new email address. That is the reason I have not changed my email address.

Hi, Bill!  I do have the one hosted by my website also, but don't trust leaving it there just in case I change some day!  I was evaluating Gmail and Live.com today with my kids, who both use gmail.  It is funny, since I was having trouble with setting up 'labels' for files I had my daughter try and help.  Then showed her how Live does it.  She decided Live was much easier!  Too funny.  Apparently my current email server also has a web based server where I can keep my address..but it may not have the capacity I need..will be calling their tech support tomorrow. In the meantime I will keep having copies forwarded and may slowly edge over to Live.com.  Thanks for all of the input!

I use gmail and have no problem with that. I never used Live, so I can not compare. You can open a gmail account and forward there all your previous accounts.

Victoria, you can use GMail to send to and from your existing email account and thus have the benefits of both.

Hey Victoria...long time no see.   I have an E-Mail with my web site and also a free one with Yahoo.  I like and use my Yahoo the most.  But when it cones to contracts it all gets sent to my business e-mail on my web site.

Since there seems to be a general consensus that Gmail is king! (!)..has anyone used Live? just curious..I do back up to both, but just delete after some time to clear the backups.

Yes Gita, that is a huge issue for me.  Once I download my mail to my computer, it is gone online.  If I cannot access my computer from a remote location with GoToMy Pc or some other method (power outages are not infrequent!), I am increasingly frustrated. 13 years with the same email will make the transition difficult!  I do have the rural server forwarding copies to both Live.com and gmail as backup in case of failure..but that covers only the active email.  I use Outlook as a contact management platform..so it would behoove me to have that out on the web somewhere!

Hard to go wrong with gmail. You can forward have everything automatically forwarded to a second email, plus there are other benefits.

Gmail is hard to beat. The cloaked to look like you own the server can make the choice a little more complicated. Meeting the objectives and escorting the inbox to the categories for recontact ease is all part of how to use email best and save time in the busy work to corral the leads, capture the ones you need to save for future litigation documentations when things go haywire. And we all sense when this one could be that kind of deal. Better back up extra tightly.

You don't need to give up - if there is a way to forward your email to gmail.

That being said, I'd say, I like gmail.

Gmail is very flexible with ties to your G+ account. It holds 1000's of emails and is very reliable. Hacking my occur so update your password from time to time.

My current email comes through a rural server..where it sits on their server until I download.  I can access their web server, but as soon as it hits my computer it is removed from their site.  I do like the Microsoft ability to use their full office suite online, their OneDrive cloud service..But I  back up to a gmail account just for safety and don't use either of those addresses publicly.  I can see the benefits of both..but seems gmail is used so much more.

I would use gmail...it makes many things much easier - google analytics, google +, you tube, google docs.

Also, I think it can slightly help your SEO...for those that email you, they are more likely to see your content on some localized searches.

At one point I seem to remember that gmail was targeting users with ads based on keywords in their email..not sure if that was resolved or?
