I did that in 2007. My goal at the time was to hire some agents. Even without doing so, it has been more than worth it. I enjoy not having to share my commissions with anyone, can sign my own forms, and run my business in any way I see fit. Best thing I ever did. But. I am an independent player...

I did just that at the advice of my accountant.  6 months after I got it, my builder gave me an ultimatom...Change companies or he was getting a new agent. (He hated my Broker).  I said I would start my own and he was good with that.  2 weeks later I was in business on my own.  I felt that the Brokers license gave me a degree of higher knowledge for my clients also.

Sure. A broker license is certification of a higher level in the real estate profession.

I know that Chief Cook is looking at doing this, Debbie...She also wants to get another distinction that doesn't have to be renewed each year, but I forgot what that was.

Cindy, I think you said it perfectly, it offers independence and it well worth the pursuit.

You know...I might. That's because I'm all about education and you also never know what that moment might arise when you have to rise up and step up.

I've heard that it's difficult to get a broker's license in Virginia so I probably won't do this at this stage in my life.  I know a lot of agents who have done it and I think it gives a REALTOR more clout.

Those of your states that have all broker licenses arevery progressive. I think that is the way to go even if you have to wait two or three years to be a full broker.

Debbie, I have been toying with this idea for quite some time. The only reason that I would move forward would be if I did decide to work on my own - start my own brokerage.

There are a lot of Brokers in my area that are one man/woman operations.

Right now I have no desire to become a broker, hire agents, and have the responsibility of managing everything that goes along with that. When you start down that road, you are basically managing/operating a business and not really, or shouldn't be, selling real estate anymore.

I think it is a good idea, it gives you more options. Plus, if your state becomes a Broker state, you are already good to go

I JUST obtained mine! I got it as if I ever wanted to explore leadership, I would be ready. Also, I believe Virginia will one day be a broker state so I figured I might as well go ahead and get it now!

I've always had a broker's license. That aside, North Carolina is an "all broker" state, so all licensees are considered "provisional brokers" when they get their first license and then they have two years to become full brokers. Otherwise, they are out of business.

No, why to spend time and money on something that you are not going to use? I like my team and at the moment i'm not interest in getting a broker license.

Yes, I did do that.  Then several years later I did go out on my own.  Our Indiana License law changed last year and everyone is now Brokers.  Newly licensed Brokers have to wait three years to open their own Brokerage.

absolutely.  Associate Brokers in Georgia are what they are called while still working under another broker.  I think it looks good to consumers and other brokers you might interview with in the future.

Indiana just went from licensees to brokers licenses this last year, so everyone is now a broker.  The Brokers (principal Brokers) will now be Managing Brokers, but I know what you mean. In my case it would be a plus.  It's always nice to have a backup plan in businesses.
