I see I'm in the minority, but if I see a post has 50+ comments, I usually go to another post by the same person and leave a comment on a blog that didn't get as much attention. I figure 50+ comments, someone has already said whatever I'd have to say. Most times I'll leave a comment on both posts though.

Kathy, I liked John Meussner's reaction to this question, but heck, I've never been a routine girl, so whatever the moment holds for me, I just go with that! Sometimes, I'll notice or read the comments, beforehand, sometimes, I don't want to be sidetracked by what another has said...moment-to-moment and it's great that as a result of speaking with Noah, BOTH of you gained something new from it!

I learned something new here I thought my comment would be lost in the woodwork of a great post that had many comments. All 17 answers prove me wrong. If you like what you read write a comment. No one (that I know of) can read your mind. Great question Kathy.

The number of comments has nothing to do with whether or not I leave a comment. I leave a comment when I have something to add or because it's someone that I read everyday and I"m stopping by to see what's on that person's mind for the day.

Kathy,
I comment on a post because I am interested in the content, and the thought of the #of comments doesn't cross my mind. A

Kathy - If I see a post I am interested in, and take the time to read, I will more often than not post a comment (probably 99%). It doesn't matter to me whether it has no other comments, or two hundred. Oftentimes I will read what others have said as well, and find that those comments can be very informative.

The number of comments doesn't make a difference as far as whether I will comment or not, unless the subject matter is something that requires reading ALL the previous comments and there are just too many for me to take the time.

I comment based on my interest in the post and having something to say, not based on how many comments there are or if there are none. There's a certain pleasure in being the first commenter, but for some posts I really enjoy seeing what else people have to say about the post itself

I don't take the number of comments into account when decidng whether or not to comment.

I not only comment but I will read many, if not all of the other comments. I generally find the "discussion" to be stimulating and educational.

I always comment. I think it's a good practice generally because I always read through comments when I'm responding. I think it's fun to strike up conversations.

The number doesn't matter at all. I have my "regulars" whom I visit every day and they visit us. The amount of comments they receive is of no concern to me...

If the topic moves me and I have something to say, I comment and I don't care, Kathy, how many other comments there might be.

If it is a subject matter which interests me, I will, no matter how many comments.

No, never, it is usually the heading that pulled me in and I will read it unless it is a bazillion words or no page breaks.

Kathy, you know that I always return comments, so it doesn't matter to me whether they already have several or dozens, I try to read the post through and make a thoughtful comment, no matter what!

Every comment is unique, so "enough" is really not a factor for me. If there are other comments, it's an opportunity to learn from them; I still comment.

I will comment on it if it's a great topic and a member that I want to support.
