I don't know of any any was to search by date on google. But, in general, for most topics, google prefers sites and articles that have aged. Over time, they can read the interaction on the site/page. There are a few exceptions as some categories really rely on more recent stuff and news. I forget the term they use for thse. But, for most of the categories that most of us write about, older articles are usually given some preference.
