Debbie - I am here for the SEO for sure, and for the learning. My favorite thing is writing blogs for fun and for instructing others.
I would still do it for zero points.
I think being featured is important because more people see our stuff and THAT brings out the SEO juice.

I think blogging adds value to one's profession. Points are for fun only.

Jay, I'd be perfectly fine with totally doing away with the point system after one reaches free account status. I blog daily because it's good for business and because I enjoy interacting here. That's good enough for me.

I would still be here. I see why the points work, and that system does encourage participation, but I'm also here for the networking and friendships I've created. I also like writing and this is a creative outlet for me as well.

I come here to learn. I inform others a little bit too. Really, the points are not something I pay a lot of attention to. I don't know my standings (except what I see on my profile) and don't follow that aspect.
To ask a zillion dumb questions only to gain points is meaningless to me. I don't understand it.

As someone new to ActiveRain, I enjoy like you said Jay Markanich, being able to write blog posts and connect with others in the industry. The gamification of it all is just a bit of added fun (and the link juice for SEO certainly doesn't hurt)!

For me, the points are an interesting side benefit only. The SEO/"google juice" are very helpful & the abilty to attract clients as well as help others with engaging content are key.

Well I definitely would. It does wonders for my biz by being found on google. And, I get great marketing ideas. But, yes, there are a lot of people here for the points. Crazy.

Points have a purpose, and eventually they fine tune them to push us to do what it takes to keep the blogging and interaction moving along.
