Why Ryan and Son for my chimney inspections?   On every inspection Ryan and Son had at least 1 F.I.R.E. Certified Fireplace and Chimney Inspector present and performing the inspection.   The F.I.R.E. Credential is the symbol of TRAINING in the chimney inspection industry and is the only Chimney Inspector Certification available today.  It is a 48 hour intensive course with tested certification, CEU requirements to maintain and an active community supporting the inspector.

William Ryan IV, President is F.I.R.E. Certified # FP-089.  Bill was also the first chairman of the Board of the International Association of Fireplace and Chimney Inspectors (IAFCI), serves on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Chimney Sweep Guild and the Mid Atlantic Hearth Patio and Barbecue Association.  On Both Boards, Bill is the Chairman of the Government Affairs Committees, assisting the professional and consumer with code issues, legislation and other government related topics.

Bill is also a National Fireplace Institute Certfied Specialist in Wood and Gas and serves as an Instructor of this program.

Bill has been teaching chimneys to the chimney and hearth trades as well as affiliated industries.  In 2009 Bill completed the NJ Residential and Commercial Structures Building Inspector Course, the first step in becoming a licensed building inspector in the state of New Jersey.

An advocate of education, Ryan and Son Chimneys is always industry current and continuously seeking additional education.

Certifications

The National Fire Protection Association's Handbook # 211, Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents and Solid Fuel Burning Appliances provides three levels of chimney inspection.

The level II is indicated upon sale of property/ Real Estate Transaction and other factors including water entry, chimney fire, seismic events etc.

The Level II Chimney Inspection requires all accessible areas of a chimney to be inspected (attics, basements, crawlspaces, areas above the roof etc) as well as internal portions of all flues in a system via use of a CC camera system or other means.

The secret to a good inspection is the report.  Report quality can make the difference between a confusing experience and a smooth correction to the problem.  In addition, when supported by the codes in force, a level II report does not contain any OPINION and is all factual and is a complete representation of a systems.

Make no mistake, an estimate or an evaluation is NOT an inspection.  A Level II on a standard chimney system can take more than an hour under normal circumstances.
