Retired from the US Army, I have been involved in real estate in one way or another since the early 1970s when I bought the first house, a home I had built for my mother. Since then, and while still on active duty,  my spouse and I have aquired properties from one coast to the other and from one border to the other. I have used my Veteran's eligibility, FHA, conventional, and owner financing to obtain ownership of properties.

With this history I am well aware of the pitfalls and, more importantly, the opportunities presented to military members to become homeowners using their VA eligibility to obtain the home with little to nothing down, and then use their housing allowance which is tax free money, to make the mortgage payments, then claim the annual interest paid with those tax free dollars on their federal tax returns.

I will meet with military members at anytime to talk about the steps to take to become property owners using what I term, "free money" and in my opinion, there is no good reason, no downside, not to use that money to their advantage.
