I fell in love with real estate when my husband, Richard, and I bought an unlivable one bedroom shack over looking the Hudson River in New Jersey.  We didn't have a lot of money so a friend who was a contractor taught us how to do things we had never tried before. We gutted the house, straightened the floors, rewired it, and paid a plumber to do the bathroom and kitchen basics. We put in skylights, re-roofed it and reshingled the exterior. After our daughter came along we paid a contractor to add two bedrooms. Then we put down our own hardwood flooring. We had a beautiful deck and garden as well. We rebuilt that shack into a lovely 3 bedroom, 1 bath home that eventually bought us our home in Cocoa. That was just the start. When we moved to Florida we rented out the house until it sold. We bought a 2 bedroom one bath condo in Clermont. When the Jersey house sold, we bought the Cocoa house and rented out the condo. And so it goes.
