web A Northern Virginia Home Inspector's Perspective |
Jay Markanich Real Estate Inspections, LLC first incorporated in 1981. Prior to doing home inspections Jay was a general contractor. He learned the inspection business in the school of hard knocks, long before inspections became popular. Diagnosing problems is quite a strong point for Jay Markanich. He is not only a Certified Master Inspector, but also as a thermal infrared image inspector, home and commercial energy auditor, and is certified in environmental assessments, such as radon and mold. You will appreciate Jay's educated ability to use language to communicate to and inform your clients, and his gentle sense of humor makes the process much less dry. Continually reading and utilizing current educational programs, Jay is very up-to-date with the home inspection industry, its many changes, new products and techniques. Green building science is a part of that continuing education. Jay's book is very comprehensive and an excellent home-owner resource, and is given to each client at the conclusion of a home inspection. When you choose a home inspector, you should insist on Jay Markanich.
Jay has many strengths, though listed here not in order of importance:
Communication and explanation of both strengths and weaknesses of a given property. Diagnosing specific problems. Water is the killer of houses, inside and out. Through the use of moisture metering and infrared imaging, water issues can be evaluated and looked at with a determined focus. The understanding of English has improved Jay's ability with Spanish, and vice versa. He is comfortable and competent in both. The languages share many similar roots. General understanding of building techniques, proper methods of practice, materials usage and renovation consultations. New construction inspections - pre-drywall evaluation and final walk through. People skills. Desire to learn and extensive, ongoing reading. Jay accomplishes at least 24 hours of continuing education each year. We cannot get enough information! Experience - Jay has been doing this a long time! He is a Certified Master Inspector and has accomplished over 21,000 home inspections. Our book is continually updated to reflect the most current home products, inspection techniques, problem solving and general home-owner information.

Thanks so much Jay and great meeting you too. Based on your thorough home inspection....Earl and I know it would be a big mistake to buy this home as is...and at the price we agreed on. We are going to review your report extensively and most likely walk away from this home. We will, however, be calling you again for another home, which we are looking into next week. Thanks again for all the report and your helpful advice. I am going to write up a wonderful Angie's list review of you! :) Christine |

Jay, As you know, through the Northern Virginia real estate business and my referring clients to you, we have known each other for nearly 10 years. May I say that it is always a pleasure to work with you. You treat my clients with respect and always conduct an informative, educational and thorough inspection. You are always quick to provide post-inspection counseling, both to my clients and myself. Your manner has been consistently professional, for which I thank you. It is also fun to say that your sense of humor always wakes me up! T. Burger |

Mr. Markanich - I just wanted to say thank you for inspecting our house in Woodbridge, Virginia. It is our first purchase and you made us both feel very comfortable. We had never done an inspection before, but my Dad liked you a lot and wishes you had inspected his house a few years ago. Your book is really helpful and my husband reads it a lot. Thank you so much, D. Gerrard |

Jay - Over the years you have done an inspection on my Leesburg condo, my second condo in Herndon, my Reston town house and now my new home in Sterling. During that time, I have married and now have two children. You have followed us around as we have grown and needed to grow house-wise too! You have always been there for us, done a great job and despite your saying that we are masochists for continuing to put up with you, we don't think going with the best is such a bad thing. It is always nice to see you and listen to your great, informative commentary on our house(s). We both agree with your ad which asks everyone to INSIST on Jay Markanich. We think they should too! See you again next time! A and W Gillis |

Hi Jay, I just wanted to thank you for the thorough inspection you did on my soon-to-be new home. The meticulous inspection you did on the first house I made an offer on helped me make a well informed decision and in my opinion allowed me to avoid getting into a less than desirable situation. As a result I'm ending up with a much better house and I am thrilled! I will highly recommend your services to anyone I know! I couldn't figure out how to post a client testimony on your website, but please feel free to use this as a testimony to your fabulous services on your web-site or elsewhere. Thanks again!
