Home buyers and real estate agents who are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable, degreed (M. Ed.), and hard working home inspector can now begin a professional relationship with me, Joey Althage, a Louisiana Licensed Home Inspector (#10781) and Indoor Air Quality Consultant-Certified (#02-4743) by simply calling or emailing at any time.

Following Hurricane Katrina, I've transitioned a 20 year Leadership career as principal of a non-profit private school into the real estate industry, specifically home inspections. The parallel between both professions has been uncanny to say the least. So many of the skills necessary for dealing with parents, teachers and students have (unkowingly) given me a great advantage in the home inspection industry as I cooperate with agents/brokers, clients and other professionals necessary for a successful real estate sale.

My educational experience of understanding how decisions, comments, and writings affect teachers, students, parents, and secretaries differently inside the school setting correlates so naturally with how a home inspector's comments, opinions or reporting marks will be seen differently by all of the individuals involved in the home buying process. This has proven to help the quality of my inspections as well as the trust clients and agents are looking for when seeking a home inspector. In addition, completing home inspection reports came naturally to me when I first began inspecting homes because of the similarity with writing numerous accreditation reports, grants, presentations, etc. I've completed in years past. Learning and knowing the proper construction methods and installations, etc. has always been a hobby of mine. Taking the licensing courses and exams was refreshing since the material confirmed my opinions about seeing a ton of "subpar" construction work following Hurricane Katrina.

The Inspection Lanscape Changes for the Better: Home buyers and agents alike should realize that finding the right home inspector is an essential part of their real estate transaction. Prior to 1999-2000 (somewhere in that time), the state of Louisiana did not require any training or schooling for home inspectors. Many of the inspectors who have been in the industry prior the turn of the century have never had any formal, required training for the services he/she provides. This of course is in comparison to the very stringent schooling, training and exam requirements of the last 12 years or so. Make sure you research the qualifications of your home inspector before scheduling with him/her. A quality home inspector should be licensed by the state he/she works in, belong to a nationally recognized home inspection organization and complete 24 plus hours of CE course work each year to stay on top of the issues pertinent to inspecting a building/home.

I look forward to the opportunity of becoming a professional extension of your home buying process.

Blessings,

Top 3 Services Offered

1. Pre-Sale Home Inspections: LA LHI #10781

I-Spy is the best kept secret around the New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Hammond, Covington area in the inspection industry. All of I-Spy's business comes simply from word of mouth referrals by former clients and agents. Better than any Franchise in the industry with regards to quality inspections and with that small company touch and care!

I don't compete with other inspectors or inspection companies for the number of inspections completed each month. I've never considered the ability to complete 3 inspections per day the bar by which my inspection "worth" would be judged. Focusing on the quality of my work, my reporting and my customer care is what drives the success of I-Spy. You have to have a good product in order to sell it and that's what keeps me busy here at I-Spy.

2. Indoor Air Quality Consulting IAC2 #02-4743 - "Green Air" is clean air.

Got Mold? Got Allergies? Do you or your children suffer symptoms from allergens? Hay fever? Coughing? Sneezing? Wheezing?

An indoor air quality inspection and testing will provide you with results regarding the quality of the air inside your home and provide an action plan for removing those allergens that cause so much discomfort.

Costs: $125/air sample (minimum two samples) and $55/hours (minimum 2 hour labor charge) *The fee for an average size home is typically around $350 depending on certain visual conditions inside the home.

3. Move-In Certified Home Inspection

If you are getting ready to sell your home, consider having an inspection done prior to listing your home. Your inspection report can be a powerful marketing tool for buyers who tour your home. Plus, you can advertise your home as "Move-In Certified", meaning there are no major conditions or issues in the house, certified by a neutral, licensed InterNACHI home Inspector. It's just like buying a certified used vehicle but it's a home instead.
