A member of the Maryland Multi-Family Housing Association and Maryland Association of Housing and Redevelopment Agencies, Derek McDaniels draws upon 35 years of multi-faceted experience in housing and community development in his role as director of business development with Efficient Home. Derek McDaniels also serves as principal of Northstar Development Advisors and previously held executive roles with the Richmond Redevelopment Housing Authority, McDaniels Companies, and Ryland Homes.

Of his 35 years of experience, 21 have been dedicated to developing nonprofit housing for under-resourced communities and allowing those communities to engage as stakeholders in the process through reclamation and rebuilding initiatives. Along with his wife, Mr. McDaniels manages the Nehemiah Community Development Corporation, which is presently focused on revitalizing the Brookland Park Boulevard commercial corridor.

Mr. McDaniels earned an MBA from Marymount University and previously earned a bachelor's degree in urban studies and architecture from the University of Maryland. He completed additional training through the Harvard University and has completed training to receive his designation as an accredited mortgage professional (AMP). Beyond his professional pursuits, his interests include deep sea fishing, weightlifting, and football.
