Get to Know Taylor McKenzie

I started in the mortgage business back in 1990 with a company called Nova Financial Services, which was First Interstate's subprime lending division.  At that time, we were selling loans at 15% and 10 points!  Can you believe that?  Good thing I didn't even know what a point or an APR was, or I would have been ethically challenged to present those rates and fees to unsuspecting borrowers.

Since then, I moved on to a Sales Manager position at a bank, then back to the mortgage industry working with various companies that specialized in helping folks with "less than perfect credit".  As with all companies, making a profit is their number one priority and it got to the point where I felt folks in this situation were being completely taken advantage of.  So I quit my job, took the next month off and studied every single day for my Real Estate license.  Fortunately I passed and worked under a broker friend of mine for the next 6 months, while studying to take my broker's license.  Upon passing that test, I started my own mortgage company, helping these folks with credit issues for reasonable rates and fees.

My passion has always been to educate these folks regarding their financial situation and their credit so they would not need to use my services any longer.  I know this sounds self defeating, but after years of working with clients who had "no choice" but to take what was offered, I wanted to empower them to be able to have "choices" once again.  If just 1 out of 10 were able to clean up their credit and restructure their financial situation in order to get a better deal, then I'd done my job.

Now that the "less than perfect credit" mortgage market has been eliminated, not to mention the fact that lenders want me to sign a contract stating that I will be personally responsible for 6 to 12 months of mortgage payments on every loan I originate, no matter what; (I don't think so!) I've decided to re-focus my efforts on soley educating folks on how credit works and how they can clean it up themselves at no cost.  So many people are in a horrible situation right now as far as their credit goes, with the mortgage meltdown and massive amount of job layoffs.  If I can just empower a few of these people and help them get out of a bad situation, then this is my ultimate goal.
