Native to Utah, I discovered when I was quite young that my soul-home was in this magnificent area of the Oregon Coast. It was not until I had a growing family, though, that I discovered that Brookings was 'The Place.'
One autumn, I organized the pilgrimage that I had always wished to take with my kids, and started at one end of Oregon, in quest of the real-live versions of the calendar pictures of the crashing waves of the Pacific Northwest! We started at the northern Oregon end of highway 101 (the most spectacularly scenic highway in the world) and delightedly explored the nooks, viewpoints, beaches and tide pools till we reached the southern end of our adventure- Brookings.
Our moment of enlightenment upon reaching Brookings was when we saw the breathtaking vista of the Pelican bay and Taco Bell in the same view, and we realized, it was time to go home and load up the u-haul.
So I made the Big Choice to raise my children in the boundless bounty granted those who dare to break ties and come to this remote and magical place.
I take great satisfaction in partnering the idealistic adventurists, who come and discover Brookings, with 'a place to hang their hat'."
Although our population is not large, (approx. 15,000) I find myself so busy with community activities that sometimes I need a little rest! In the summer, Brookings http://www.brookings.or.us/ rev's up for tourist season with so many events, its impossible to get to all of them! http://www.brookingsor.com/event_calendar.cfm. Brookings is home to The Chetco Pelican Players theater group http://www.pelicanplayers.com/ - the only year-round theater group within 200 miles! The vast local talent for the plays, includes area youth that are able to have opportunities on stage that would be hard to come by in larger areas!
Brookings origins eminated from the timber and fishing industries, which are still a large part of our culture and economy. Our wild rivers tours http://www.roguejets.com/ and sea fishing trips http://www.brookingsor.com/our_businesses.cfm?categoryid=207 are the destination for a multitude of folks who know where to come for unsurpassed recreation!
A Realtor affiliated with Blue Pacific Realty in Brookings Oregon, I am a Pacific Northwest Coastal enthusiast. I love the Banana Belt Coastal climate and sharing all there is to see and do here.
