Old Republic gets high reviews on this site of realtors, but if you look at sites of people who home... more Old Republic gets high reviews on this site of realtors, but if you look at sites of people who homeowners who have had their policies, you will find their ratings very low. I can tell you why. The house I purchased came with an Old Republic warranty, which I thought was a nice bonus. I used the policy to have an electrician service multiple electrical issues. My fiancee met the electrician, since I was at work. The electrician left an invoice with no invoice number and no contact information or address. He also left a business card with an email address and phone number, no address. When I set up the service call with Old Republic, the representative did not say that I would be billed for the $75 deductible by Old Republic. Since I'd been left an invoice by the electrician, I assumed I owed him the $75. It took a couple attempts at calling him before he returned my calls and gave me his mailing address. I put a check for $75 in the mail to him and assumed that was that. It is now mid July, and I am still dealing with the issue of payment. I continued to get bills from Old Republic, despite the fact that I'd sent the check to the electrician. I have spent hours upon hours trying to resolve this. I've tried calling the electrician and Old Republic has tried calling him many times. Eventually he finally left me a voice mail saying that he'd lost the check and just thought, 'Oh well, my fault, my loss.' (Sounded better before I knew the money wasn't even his to keep.) I have twice been told by Old Republic representatives that this matter would be sent to an accounting manager and the charge taken off the books. After the first time I was told that, a collection notice was sent to my address in my fiancee's name. The second person who told me that accounting would clear this promised I would receive a phone call to confirm that it had been done. Both times I told the representative that as soon as this was cleared I would send a check for $45 to the electrician ($75 - $30 check cancellation fee.) Neither representative explained that the money owed was to Old Republic, not him. They just told me that they were SO sorry for all the inconvenience and that my balance with Old Republic would be cleared.I did not receive the promised call telling me everything was cleared, so I called them back today, after 2 weeks of waiting. Since the 2 representatives who reassured me that the charges would be cleared both said they were forwarding notes to an accounting manager, I asked to be transferred to someone in that role. All accounting managers were in a meeting, but an accountant spoke to me. She very brusquely informed me that, yes, the notes show that I was told my charges would be cleared, but I owed the $75 to Old Republic, not the electrician (first I've heard this!) and so the charges can not be cleared. I told the representative today when I learned that the money is due Old Republic that I would send a check for $45, but the electrician owes them the other $30, since he lost my check. No, I still owe $75, she says. I cannot begin to tell you how frustrated and angry I am. I have poured an unbelievable amount of time into trying to resolve this, have twice been reassured that it has been, and they still have my account referred for collection. When I bought the house, I intended to renew the home warranty at the end of the year. I would now rather pull out my own teeth than to ever deal with this company again.
